I am a native Arizonan, raised with three sisters and two brothers on the south side of Tucson. My father had a ninth grade education and my mother an eighth. After high school I served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and thereafter I returned to attend the University of Arizona. I received my law degree from the University of Arizona College of Law, was an Assistant Attorney General, and served as legal counsel within the Department of Corrections until 1998. I previously worked for the Department of Juvenile Corrections and now have a private practice where I focus on children and family issues as well as personal injury cases.
I have filled the last decade with public and community service. I have been active in various teen teaching and mentoring programs. I have served on Governor Napolitano's 2003 Juvenile Justice Subcommittee on Child Protective Services Reform. I am a 2004 graduate of the Hispanic Leadership Institute and served on the Maricopa County Foster Care Review Board, the State Bar Committee on Minorities and Women in Law, and as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem representing the best interest of children in Family Court. My memberships have included the State Bar Juvenile Law Section, Los Abogados, and the Volunteer Lawyers Program.
